How did the band get started? jackson and joe have been in and out of alot of bands together so they started this little project, i knew jackson's dad from church, and i had heard that jackson was like the best guitar player, so to make a long story short, i just called them and started practicing with them. ryan is jackson's wife's little brother, and we heard him sing once at a show, and asked him to try out.
What is your goal as a band? our goal as a band is to excel in everything we write, and in every show we play. we just really want to enjoy doing it.
What style do you play? we play fast melodic new skool punk.
Where are you guys from? we're from the antelope valley (lancaster and palmdale), which is in los angeles county, california.
What is the music scene like in your area? the scene here is kinda cool, there isn't much to do, so when there is a show lots of people show up.
What bands influence your band? i'd say everything from other punk bands like strung out, to old new wave stuff like the cure. we all kind of listen to some different stuff that might surprise people. for instance, i love sixpence none the richer.
What kind of a ministry does the band have? our ministry is basically our everyday lives. we don't do anything on the stage that we wouldnt do at our other jobs or walking down the street.
If you had the choice, which band would you tour with? i think we would all want to tour with strung out, or mxpx.
Any interesting concert experiances or funny/weird stories? there are so many. one night yob was driving with our roadie shawn as his navigator, joe and i were in the back of our van sleeping on the bed, and jackson and ryan were in the two middle captains chairs sleeping. from my deep sleep i hear this yell, so i sit up really quick to see us quickly approaching the end of the freeway, and i didn't see any ground on the other side of the pavement. needless to say, something caught us cuz were all still alive, but that cost us $300 in damages to our bushings in the van, and a new pair of underwear for everyone.
What's the wackiest thing you've ever done in concert? i'd have to say it was when we were doing a show at the chamber (rip) in orange county. i broke a string in middle of a song, which never happens, so joe came up from behind his drumset, and he had the whole crowd singing "row, row, row your boat..."
What would you say the best part of the show is? hanging out!
Do you ever play cover songs? yeah. actually, we're recording some cover songs pretty soon. we're doing a split ep with joy electric in which they cover some of our songs and we cover a couple of their songs. we're also recording the cure's "close to me," and metallica's "battery." we're also covering a keith green song.
How did you come to name your cds "Rusty" and "Burn Out"? rusty was going to be a nickname that joe's wife, (or jackson's sister, however she is labeled best), had picked for me, but it didn't stick. now they call me brown. burn out could've easily been a number of any other names. we came up with the cover concept first, and picked the name after that.
What are your plans for future CDs? right now we're writing for another album. so far we have about 9 solid songs or fragments of songs, and we intend to write another 20 or so and pick the best of them.
Best and worst things about being in a band? touring. its totally the best thing to drive all over the place and meet new people, but at the same time, everyone tends to get homesick and it can be really hectic.
Any final comments? "find rest oh my soul in God alone, my hope comes from him..."
