How did the band get started? We actually started out as the praise and worship band for a teen service at our church Mt. Carmel Church Of Christ in Cincinnati, Ohio (we still do that too.. every sunday) We decided .. along with Russ Howard the youth minister.. that Praise music could be any style.. as long as you were praising God.. so we took some traditional worship songs and added our own little thingy to them.. along with this we began to write original songs.. with lyrics that were meant to enable Christian teens in their walk with Christ.. and empower them to stand for Him... as time went on we felt we had some really good tunes and decided to record them to CD so the kids in the service could learn the lyrics.... we never thought what happened next would... and now we play out almost every weekend around the General Ohio area and are accepted in the local music scene... yipee!
What is your goal as a band? Our goal is only to spread God's word to the christrian teens of today, or anyone else who will listen, through our music. We want to show teens that they can make a difference in the world.. even if it just means affecting one persons life in a positive way
What style do you play? It varies.. we sort of have a pop-punk base, I guess, but we play from Skate punk.. to ska.. to straight Rock and roll.. to melodic noise .. to quirky ballad.. to etc. etc. etc.
Where are you guys from? It was at first believed that we were from a very distant planet , however we hail from Cincinnati, Ohio
What is the music scene like in your area? If we're speaking of the Christian Music scene..It is actually pretty strong. There are a few very strong bands here in Cincinnati, as well as in Dayton, and also Fort Wayne Indiana (not too far away) I'd just like to take this moment to plug our friends Cellophane Tomb.. and No More Droids (two great christian punk bands.. you've probably never heard of before :)
What bands influence your band?
Wow this is where it gets crazy... each one of us has such different
influences I think i'll list them by name..:
Max: Journey, Styx, Dream Theater, Spin Doctors (what a crazy guy)
Rick: Weezer, Ghoti Hook, Green Day, Fleming and John, Bleach, Value Pac
Bill: Superchunk, the pixies
Kenny: Craig's Brother, Slick Shoes,MxPx, Five Iron Frenzy, Pennywise,
Suicide Machines
Me: Superchunk, Jawbox, The Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., They Might Be Giants,
Ghoti Hook. Sixpence None The Richer, Blaster The Rocketboy, Craig's
Brother
What kind of a ministry does the band have? Mostly we focus on Christian Teens and try to show them that they can be intense christians at their age... we also still love to sing praise to God and are known to bust out a praise set in the middle of our shows
If you had the choice, which band would you tour with? Hmmm. I would have to say Cellophane Tomb, or No More Droids.. we just love dem folks!
Any interesting concert experiances or funny/weird stories? Once we were on one of the local Christian Radio stations (93.3 WAKW) for an interview/showcase type thingy.. and it leaked out that I could make a farting noise with my eyesocket by pressing the palm of my hand into it... The DJ lady.. whose name was linda..( but we preferred to call her Leeenda) made me do it on the air about 5 thousand times!!! (ok a little exaggeration there) anyway.. she really seemed to like it.
What's the wackiest thing you've ever done in concert? once we were playing an outdoor concert, in the dead of summer, and it was freekin hot.. anyway the heat was making Rick's bass cabinet cut in and out.. sometimes between songs.. so anyway we ended one of our songs.. and it cut out..I thought I had to do something to keep the crowd occupied while it came back on.. And so I started telling this story about how one day I was walking down the road and I saw this little green fuzzy thing walking on the other side. so I walked over to it and Said Hi how are you doing.. and it looked up at me and said.. oh Hi you big dork! anyway then His cabinet started working again.. and we started playing, but I felt pretty silly because I had never had to make up a story in front of a big crowd before.. and that one really stunk! hee hee
What would you say the best part of the show is? I think that the best part for us is being able to put so much energy into Bringing glory to God. It gets us excited to see the crowd also putting that much energy into it.. God is awesome and he deserves everything we've got!
Do you ever play cover songs? yeah.. we've covered.. "missing you".. by valu pac... "knock knock" by Ghoti hook that classic song "get together" and a bunch of praise songs...
Best and worst things about being in a band? Best: You are like a bunch of brothers Worst: You are like a bunch of brothers (hee hee) this includes the side where you get on each others nerves sometimes.. but we all still Love each other.. and we always work it out :)
Anything people should know about the band? We are considering changing our style to only polka.. (just kidding) hmmm. I guess just that we want to play in your town :)
Do you have any cds, demos, etc., out? yup.. our demo is called "Tales From the Sardine can" and It has been self produced
