Pep Squad
--Yreka Bakery--

(spell it backwards, just for fun!)

I've been a fan of Pep Squad since No Doy came out. This CD is much more mature than the other two that have come out. The best thing about this band is that they are NOT afraid to try things! For instance, in the the wonderful cover of "Friend of Foe" (a great Adam Ant song), they include some horns throughout the song with low-pitched growls and the trademark happy sounds of Pep Sqaud. It is really is something you must hear to understand. The pop element is also more prominent on this album, which I like. And furthermore, Kim sings more so that adds a nice and sweet sound to the songs. But don't worry, it's still got the chaotic sounds like No Doy splashed in and out of songs. And of course the highlights of the CD are when the legendary Gene Eugene (producer of Lord-knows how many bands), Chris Corbin (ditto), and Wayne Everett (producer and ex-drummer for Prayer Chain) make special appearences on here. Most of my friends don't like this band, but if you want to step out of your punk/hardcore rhelm, give Pep Squad's Yreka Bakery a spin.
