How did the band get started? The band started when Kim decided she wanted to play an instrument. I (Bryan) told her I would help her write the songs. We tried to put together an all girl band, but I ended up liking the band too much to step aside. We added a bass player and started playing shows.
What is your goal as a band? Our main goals are to glorify God through our music, and to make music that WE like.
What style do you play? We're kindof a combination of pop and punk.
Where are you guys from? We're all from Oregon, in the Portland metro area.
What is the music scene like in your area? The music scene in town is ok. It's kind of at a transitional point, where it doesn't know what it wants to do. The rock shows aren't drawing as much these days, but nobody knows where music is going to go next.
What bands influence your band? We listen to everything from My Bloody Valentine to Donna Summer to The Make-up.
What kind of a ministry does the band have? We try to show God to others by talking to them and letting them see how we are in person. Also, we try to write songs that speak to people about God. If you had the choice, which band would you tour with? Well, our dream is coming true next month. We will be touring with Fold Zandura. I would also love to tour with Danielson, because I could watch them every night.
Any interesting concert experiences or funny/weird stories? Yeah. When we were driving through Utah, Evan hit a cow with the van. It was standing in the middle of the highway with 4 other cows. It was pretty scary to hit a cow going 60 miles per hour. We barely hit his rear end, but it still did a lot of damage to the van.
What's the wackiest thing you've ever done in concert? One time we set Brad on fire.
What would you say the best part of the show is? It's the music, of course. We've kind of put the cheerleaders away and started to rely on our songs more.
Do you ever play cover songs? Yes. We plan to do a cover or two on our upcoming tour. We also covered Adam Ant's "Friend or Foe" on our new album "YrekaBakerY".
Best and worst things about being in a band? The worst thing about being in a band is trying to travel around and play shows with little or no money, or playing for a boring bunch of punk rock brats. The best thing about it all, is traveling and seeing the country, meeting new people and getting to play a concert every night of the week. I think the good out-weighs the bad, and that's why we're still doing it.
Anything people should know about the band? Well, our bass player quit again. We will be looking for another.
How did the name 'Yreka Bakery' come about? My sister remembers her 6th grade teacher teaching them about palindromes. (Two words that can be spelled the same way frontwards and backwards). Also, there is a town in Northern California called "Yreka". We drive through it every time we go through California.
Do you have any plans for new cds? yes. We plan to start writing a new album this fall.
