Pedro the Lion

The Only Reason I Feel Secure EP

Would you believe me when I told you that this is the first Pedro release I have ever owned? I have been a fan of this group ever since Whole EP came out on T&N, but I never bought the disc. But I'm glad I got this album. Wow. I really wish they included the lyrics in the liner notes because David Bazan's words are so amazing and honest. The music is that slow, emotional indie-rock that Pedro has been playing since they left T&N for Made in Mexico and it's nothing short of beautiful. "Letter from a Concerned Follower" actually sounds like a letter being read but it's still a song. Very creative. Pedro's rendition of that traditional hymn, "Be Thou My Vision," is something that must be heard. Finally, I really like the concept of "Criticism as Inspiration." It's about our friends keep us accountable, even though we may not like it, we really appreciate it in the end.
