Octane Blue- "73 Seconds Remembered Forever"

True abstract art doesn't often come in the form of music, but I dare say it's taken shape in the band known as Octane Blue. They have molded their pleading vocals and unfrequented chaotic screams into carefully-calculated songs. The band often does math-rockin' instrumentals (a la Roadside Monument on I Am the Day of Current Taste), but also alludes to soft and experimental indie-rock. Luscious and heart-wrenching harmonies fill the air as they sing "dedicated and lost" ("Dedicated Logistics"). The song actually ends on a really rockin' solo you might hear on an early Starflyer 59 record. Intense intros and odd-chords make its way on songs like "Remember Jonah," "217," and "Atlantic Avenue," but they will turn into a beautiful melodic hardcore or indie-rock ballad. The liner notes adorn hand-drawn images of airplanes and of Chornobyl, maps, watches, nature, candles, and other artistic/poetic pictures.
I think I may have to explain why I am having such a hard time writing this review. This band was recommened to me by a friend on-line who played with one of the guitarists when he was in Substance. He said it was "right up my alley." And he was right. I feel like Octane Blue has taken out all my feelings and emotions and transposed them into beautiful, chaotic, pleading, and lonely songs. Lyrics about struggling with God and just trying to make it through tomorrow. So it's hard because all my feelings are in those songs and I can't transpose them for you. I have been playing guitar for a while now, and what they play, I have devised myself as well. But no one around here is accepting of my kind of artistic music. I must thank Octane Blue for their willingness to share their hearts and creativity. May the Heavenly Muse of Music shine upon you.
