"This Weekend"

Honey Locust

It is not very often that I fall in love with a CD before the first song is over, but that was definitely the case with "This Weekend". Honey Locust's new CD on Screaming Giant Records did not leave me disappointed. I had heard 2 of their songs on the Bettie Rocket's "Ska Craze 2" CD, and I thought they were good, but wow, it's nothing compared to the full-length cd. The guys in Honey Locust bring in lots of ska with plenty of punk and even a bit of rapcore influences thrown in. "Sometimes" is my favorite track, it starts off a bit slow with a catchy tune, and then they bring in the skacore. "Please Excuse Us" is just the coolest with the chorus 'Please excuse us / We love Jesus / Please believe us / We can't help it'. "A Brand New Start" really reminds of Chicago ska band Nifty 50 (RIP), but it's still very original at the same time. The title track, "This Weekend" is just a happy song. Musically, it's very diverse, and lyrically it's just as Spirit-filled as the rest of the CD. These guys obviously have a strong love for Christ and a passion for spreading His word, and God definitely blessed them musically.
