How did the band get started? It was originally a trio of Bobby, Brock, and I. We played a song at a dessert theatre and got invited to play at a youth retreat. We then added Jason and Phil. That weekend we got Lee on bass. The rest is history!
What is your goal as a band? To let everyone know the precious love of Jesus Christ and to reach out to the unsaved.
What style do you play? A hybrid of rock-n-roll, modern rock, alternative, and whatever we want.
Where are you guys from? All of us live in various parts of Georgia except Lee who is from Jacksonville, Florida.
What is the music scene like in your area? Not really sure. We've only been together as a FULL band for maybe a half a month (the orginal members have been togther since February '99). Personally, I am the only one in the band in the Christian hardcore and metal scene which isn't too bad. We don't know too much about the modern rock stuff except that Third Day, Loudflower, and Smalltown Poets comes from around here.
What bands influence your band? Phil is our main writer when it comes to music. We mainly play cover songs because of the time alotted between shows we play. If I had to give a few examples it would be bands like Jars of Clay, Deliriou5?, and other modern acts but with a harder edge.
What kind of a ministry does the band have? We are all out ministry. We feel that it is sooooo important that people hear of God's undying love for all of us. Even if it is just a scripture verse that we have time for, then we will take that time because we CANNOT remain silent. His love is for ALL creation and is not just limited to our churches.
If you had the choice, which band would you tour with? I think it'd be great to tour with Jars of Clay. I don't know about the other guys. I think Bobby would like Stevie Ray Vaughn to come back from the dead and play. If God blesses us with band to tour with someday, that would be great.
Any interesting concert experiances or funny/weird stories? At the youth retreat, we tried to get Jason to come out of a telephone booth in the midst of all the fog, but he got stuck in there during rehearsal so we didn't do it.
What's the wackiest thing you've ever done in concert? Bobby likes to wear these gold-colored silk-looking pants and Brock wears this harlequin shirt from FuBu sometimes.
What would you say the best part of the show is? When the crowd sings along and feel the power of the Holy Spirit come upon us.
Do you ever play cover songs? That is what we mainly play up to this point because of scheduals. We play some Jars of Clay and dc Talk. Herman has some other songs lined up. I hope that we can do some stuff from PlankEye, Mineral, Larry Norman, and maybe even an MxPx song. But we do have some original songs that Phil has written.
Best and worst things about being in a band? Best: Fellowship of the members and just the whole concert experience. Worst: Conflicting music interests and sometimes attitudes.
Anything people should know about the band? Yes. We are going on a major missions trip in July to the Republic of Georgia (former Russia). It would help out a lot if people would pray and encourage us as well as help us out financially (please see webpage link).
How can people contact you for merch and stuff? Soon we will have a band e-mail address for that kind of thing, but until then, you can e- mail me at [email protected]. Also, there is a page in my personal website that talks about our ministry. http://come.to/smyrna. Just follow the links to the Herman "War on the Floor" Tour.
Any final comments? Let us all raise our hands in unity in a time of
strife.
