How did Flax get started? Flax has been exsisting in its present form for nearly two years. although mike, toby, and joey have been playing music together for 3 1/2 years
What is your goal as a band? our goal is mass exposure for Jesus Christ including the edifaction of the saints and taking the truth of the gospel to the lost
What style of music do you play? as the christian and secular market goes we play "hip hop hardcore" but the music God has given us, as filtered through these vessels,is a lot more "funk" oriented in the sense of pure late 60's and 70's funkadelic movement. (fat bass and drum grooves with some waka waka guitar at times.
Where are you guys from? the whole band is from Birmingham, AL
How is the music scene in your area? the music scene in our area is fairly healthy. weve had some very cool venues in times past; slacker 66,the crush warehouse, and the refuge.
Who are your musical influences? we are influenced by several different groups;pod, zao, the dixie dregs, george clinton and the parliment funkadelics, squad 5-0 etc...........
How would you describe your ministry? when we play secular gigs we let the music do a lot of the talking for us because our lyrics are very outspoken. yet as the Holy Spirit leads us we will share from the stage whether in front of non christians or a churchy crowd. it really is dictated by the Holy Spirit because as we play he is working on the hearts of the people and if the Spirit puts something on any of our hearts we will follow His lead.
Who would you like to tour with? any band that would allow us to be in front of as many unsaved peole as possible. cause Jesus is on His way back and the time for playing church is over and i don't want anybody to have to go through the Great Tribulation that dosen't have to.
Any weird/funny concert stories? yeah actually, once when we were playing at the very last part of the set, the last song actually our singer, randall, was slain in the spirit. so we dropped our instruments on the stage feeding back and everything and went out ministring to folks in the crowd as the Holy Spirit prompted us and many were delivered and touched by the Spirit of God. All praise to the Father.
What is the wackiest thing you've ever done in concert? the wackiest thing i personally have done in concert was put duck tape on my forehead that read "zealot" for the whole show.
What is the best part of the show? the best part of the show is playing and knowing that God's Spirit is moving and God begins to reveal to us those needs in the crowd. so that we can minister concerning those issues in general terms.even after the show.
What are the best and worst parts of being in a band? the best part of being in this band is to see life changing ministry take place the worst part of being in this band is listening to people in the church say that playing this kind of music cannot be of or used by God.
Is there anything you would like people to know about the band? we would like people to know that we all sincerly love Jesus Christ with all our hearts. and also to other Christian bands, we would like to say that we personally believe that ministry's such as these can take some tips from the Church at large. and attempt to drop the egos and try with everything we have to live upright lives and be sensative to the Holy Spirit's leadings in all that we endevor to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can people contact you? for any and all Flax info check out Flax...The Band's Homepage
