"Tired of Caring EP"

Cordelia's Rebellion

Underproduced, but still good. I know the guys in Cordelia's Rebellion wish they could burn all these EP's in a bonfire, but I still like this first showing. Displaying a raw indy-rock sound at it's best, CR takes influences from Fugazi, Roadside Monument, Pedro the Lion, their local buddies Sonnet, Sunny Day Real Estate, and others. I enjoy hearing the indie-pop sensiblilities on "Ceyanne" and the overlapping vocals remind me of the indie-isms of Octane Blue. Peaceful guitars fill the sound of "Beauty" as it leads into a theme of blissful distortion. I think the instrumental, "If You Can't See My Mirrors I Can't See You," does showcase their Roadside Monument influence due to the fact that Roadside was known for their beautiful indie-rock songs on Eight Hours Away From Being a Man. My favorite lyric on the EP has to be from "Dialogue with the Lamb": "I'd forgotton how good it was to deny myself." Wow. Just read that again. It just kind of struck me that we forget that we're not God and we have to deny ourselves and deny our pride (which always seems to get in the way of life). The band has gone under some changes (musically and as far as the line-up goes) and I can't wait to hear the new material which now features Seth on keyboard. Indy-rock for the artsy.
