Cordelia's Rebellion

unleaded: smooth, alright, let's start off by stating the members of Cordelia's Rebellion
adam: ok. right now the current CR line up is....dave l: bass, seth: keyboards, vocals, justin: guitar, vocals, david a: guitar, adam: drums....I think david l and david a and I are going to start doing more vocals from time to time..
unleaded: awesome. i love it when bands mix vocals. it gives more texture.

unleaded: how'd you get the name for the band?
adam: Our name comes from a play by William Shakespear called "King Lear". I wont go into massive detail about the play but Cordelia was one of King Lear's daughters.
unleaded: and i guess Cordelia rebelled or some sort? (sorry, i haven't read that play, yet)
adam: hah, yeah ok here is the story. King lear had 3 daughters, and he told them he was dividing up his possitions (i think thats right) and he said who ever loved him the most would get the most stuff.. so the first two daughters kissed up and kissed up but when he got to cordelia she told him that he would know how much she loved him with out having to tell him (or something to that effect).. so basicly this angers him and he tells her to get lost so when he relizes that she did love him the most and saw this threw her actions he goes to find her.. but she had killed her self. justin tells it way better, heh.
unleaded: way cool. i bet most of your fans didn't know that. i'll have to read that play sometime.
adam: yeah i only know one person who has known what it was

unleaded: what kind of music is CR and what influences?
adam: oh boy here we go! hah. well this can be a tricky one. Alot of places we go and play or people who have bought our cd/ep and given me feed back label us emo. but to be honest we dont really see our selfs fitting in with the whole emo genre. I mean if they want to just say we are emotional threw our music, then thats fine we can dig that.. but i wouldnt go as far as saying we fit into the whole emo subculture. I would probably say we are emotional indy rock. Influnces.. well that ranges heavly. I know that some of the main bands are : Rainer Maria (where i get alot of my drumming influnce...the other half be from coalesce..but i can only dream of being like him), Pedro the Lion, Sunny Day Real Estate, Sonnet, Fugazi and probably (well every one tells us we really sound like them from time to time) Roadside monument. I think all of us tho take influences from more than just thoes bands because we all listen to a WIDE veratiy of music. obvously seth and i listen to heaver music, coming from arrakis, than every one else, so we take that influenc into Cr as well (example the double bass parts on the newer songs with the screatchy vocals).
adam: The band just called me from a pay phone and wanted to tell every one at unleaded and who is reading this hello, and to go see Man on the moon.. (witch they went and saw with out me!)
unleaded: hahaha! say hi to the guys for me! maybe next time we'll get all of them together and interview.
adam: yeah. dude. they were sad they missed out, but thats what they get for ditchin me! hah, j/k

unleaded: but yeah, what do you think happened to emo? i mean, it's become so generalized that a lot of bands get thrown into it.
adam: Well.. to be honest i dont really know. to me its just like the next punk rock or hardcore. Alot of good bands out there but even more bad ones trying to mimk the good ones.. and that can just turn a great thing sour....I think you can tell the bands that are trying to mimk and the ones that are trying to just be honest threw there music.

unleaded: yes, unfortunately. but i'd say y'all are indy-rock, definitely. i can hear the Roadside influence like all of your buddies. i got them in my CD player right now (because you know they're my favorite band ever!). Was CR your solace when you left the "crust-core" band, Arrakis? (laughs)
adam: hah... crust core.. oh my, dont you get started either! hah. any way, yeah i guess it was. For a long time i had wanted to do somethimg more with arrakis and it was just to hard to do that with josh leaving... when the band was talking of just breaking up so trey could go on to do what he wanted i wasnt sure what i was going to do.. i mean for like 2 years that band had been my life, band life was all i really knew any more. Justin and David L and I went to high shcool toghter, so i went to see justin and david graduate and then like a week or two later justin and I jamed toghter cuz they needed a fill in drummer for the last arrakis show and things just clicked. the first time i practised with them we wrote 5 songs..yeah. it was really quite rad, justin and i had talked about jaming all threw high school but never did. We were all in plays toghter so we already knew how each other thought and how to play off each other..

unleaded: it's cool how bands get together. alright, ready for some "word association"?
adam: hah, yeah dude shoot.
unleaded: rock
adam: elvis
unleaded: dead
adam: rock
unleaded: still cool
adam: bill cosby (always will be)
unleaded: right on! he's my most favorite comedian!
adam: dude he rules!
unleaded: you ever see his video, "himself"? that thing is so hilarious! i like the part about how getting drunk is fun (but he makes fun of it)
adam: yeah i have that on tape somewhere. we used to listen to bill cosby for hours in arrakis.
unleaded: cool. Roadside Monument.
adam: genuis
unleaded: amen. artist
adam: nik.. (he is my friend..totally a art kid. he rules)
unleaded: materialism
adam: xmas
unleaded: yeah, unfortunately Christmas has come to that. i only wish people would recognize what it's all about.
adam: yeah totally. dont get me started on my xmas horror stories tho. heh
unleaded: politics
adam: crap
unleaded: author
adam: cs lewis
unleaded: smile
adam: my friend katie from dallas
unleaded: ahh, how sweet
adam: heh
unleaded: candy
adam: dont eat.

unleaded: alright, enough of that. what are the top 5 CD's everyone should get before Y2K?
adam: hrmm thats a hard question. i would have to say the following in no particular order...

Rainer Maria: past worn searching
Weezer: Pinkerton
Fugazi: Repeater
Roadside Monument: 8 Hours away from being a man
And Academy: Flags

unleaded: ya know, i still haven't heard Rainer Maria, Weezer, Fugazi, or And Academy. isn't that sad?
adam: Wow dude, your missing out. How could you never hear weezer! thats a odd one!
unleaded: thing is, when Weezer came out, i was listening to the oldies radio station. i didn't like the new rock music.
adam: ahh. yeah that was quiet some time ago to..
unleaded: yeah, it was. but man i loved my oldies and motown.
adam: heh. every time i hear oldies now i think of this time my friend ryan k and i helped this guy moved. any way.

unleaded: if there was such thing as re-incarnation, what would you want to come back as?
adam: hrmm.. thats a odd question. never really thought about reincarnation.. I probably wouldnt want to come back. I just want to make it to heaven...

unleaded: me, too. it was just hypothetical.... any side projects we should know about?
adam: ugh lets see. Justin is working on a solo albulm.... i think david l is also goignto do a solo albulm.. Seth is in another band called the Scienticians...

unleaded: what do you want for Christmas this year?
adam: I already got it, im going to seattle! best xmas gift i ever got. what about you?
unleaded: coolness. i've always wanted to go there. me? i want a print of Picasso's "Guernica," Pink Floyd "The Wall," and a Puller t-shirt.
adam: there you go readers... start shoping!
unleaded: yeah! go out and get me that stuff!
adam: heh.

unleaded: what's the new stuff sound like (in comparison the EP)? i can't wait to get it.
adam: hrmm. well the new songs on the lp ... well its hard to say, they vary... I still think it has the CR feel but some are a bit more agressive and odd than others and some others are just stright out indy rock. Tons more keyboards, adding a extra guitar palyer has deffently put a sweeter edge on things.. made things alot thicker..
unleaded: keyboards deserve to be in indy-rock.
adam: oh yeah. i love the way things sound with them. Seth totally rips that keyboard up

unleaded: alright, this is where you can tell the readers your website, contact info, where to get merchandise, etc.
adam: ok .. website is http://tiredofcaring.cjb.net and email is [email protected] as far as merchandise, well we have like 2 cd's left and that is the extend of our merch untill we can get some more money together.
unleaded: dang, could you hold an EP for me? i gotta get it, still. :)
adam: yeah sure if you want. Or i could burn it at the end of the new lp for ya for free if there is room since you were nice enough to interview us. or you can send us money, doesnt matter to me =)
unleaded: awesome! but i'll more than likely get the EP, then the LP when it comes out.
adam: ok ill hold one for ya then
unleaded: cool.
adam: oh yeah. crap people can write us at this address

cordelias rebellion
po box 21601
okc, ok 73156

forgot to put that above.

unleaded: finally, any words of wisdom for the readers out there?
adam: as i alway say in the end of a interview, read The Great Divorce by CS Lewis. That book is brilliant.. also support people like unleaded and the other zines that are out there working there tail off to support what they beleve in. Being in any kind of "sceen" menas helping others out...and i want to give shout outs to the following: And Academy, Sonnet, Sikarra, Ehd, and all the others trying to help and support CR
