The Bystandards

Tell me about who is in the band. Lead vocals and guitar: Van Roberts
Lead Guitar: Brad Every
Drums: Rudy Brannon
Bass and BGV's: Chad Wilson

How did the band get started? The old bass player started the band. Then he didn't like Van's lyrics because they talked about Christian ways of life and he wasn't that good anyway, so they kicked him out. Then they found me because the other three guys went to school with my girlfriend.

What is your goal as a band? To spread the word of God

What style do you play? We're a variety band. We play some punk, some heavy almost hardcore type stuff, some funk type stuff, alternative, and we have one acoustic song with a sax part.

Where are you guys from? Indianapolis

What is the music scene like in your area? It sucks. There really isn't much of a Christian music scene. There are some hardcore bands that are kind of cool, but besides that, there's nothing.

What bands influence your band? Most of the Tooth and Nail bands

What kind of a ministry does the band have? The band is the ministry. We try to speak to people from stage a little, and one on one after shows, we hand out copies of the New Testament to people that don't have one, and we just try to live as examples for others.

If you had the choice, which band would you tour with? MxPx, POD, and Project 86

Any interesting concert experiances or funny/weird stories? Ummm, every show with Van is interesting. Besides that, we've played with a bunch of Tooth and Nail bands and they've all been really cool.

What's the wackiest thing you've ever done in concert? In one of our songs, a line is "People say I'm mental but I don't care. They're always making fun of my Scooby Doo underwear" When Van sings that part, he drops his pants once in a while to show that he is wearing his "scoobies".

Best and worst things about being in a band? Best: it's a lot of fun and we get to meet a lot of cool people. And we get to spend a lot of time together. Worst: it's a lot of hard work trying to get our music out to people. It gets frustrating.

Anything people should know about the band? We're Christians.

Do you have any cds, demos, etc., out? Yeah, it's a 5 song thing we put together called "Not All Angels Have Harps" it implies that some play guitars too.

How can people contact you for merch and stuff? Email me @ [email protected] or go to our website http://expert.cc.purdue.edu/~every/

Any final comments? Yeah, thanks for the interview. We appreciate the publicity. God Bless.
